Your personal information is essential; we want to help you keep it safe. Scammers are always looking for ways to obtain your personal information, so it’s important to be vigilant. Be cautious if you receive unsolicited calls, emails, text messages, or letters. Even if it appears from a legitimate source, never provide your personal information if you are contacted directly. It’s important to remember that NY TEAM will never contact you directly to request any personal information, including your Social Security Number, credit or debit card numbers, PIN, CVV, address, date of birth, online banking login information, passwords, or security codes. To avoid fraud, check with us first if someone contacts you and requests your account information. Please do not share any information before contacting us directly at 1-516-822-1070 to validate the authenticity of the request. Be aware of unsolicited emails and check for typos or grammatical errors if you receive an email from what seems to be a legitimate retailer. If you received a suspicious email and wonder if it’s legitimate, please forward it to info@nyteamfcu.org. Check your account regularly through the NY TEAM mobile app or monthly e-Statements to ensure your account transactions are accurate and valid. Let’s work together to fight fraud and stay at the forefront of any potential scams targeting our members. |
Cash App Fraud
It’s important to be careful when transferring money, especially when using cash apps. While these apps are convenient and easy to use, scams have increased during the COVID pandemic. To protect yourself, ensure you only send money to people you know and double-check their usernames before sending. Scammers often pretend to be influencers or offer to help during difficult times, but their true intent is to take advantage of unsuspecting individuals. They may ask you to pay through reloadable cards, gift cards, or mobile payment apps, so it’s essential to be vigilant. To use cash apps safely, remember to know the rules of any giveaways or sweepstakes, only send funds to people you know, set up security features, and protect sensitive information. If you fall victim to a scam, report it to the mobile payment app and the Federal Trade Commission so they can act against the scammers.
